Project 1: Onboarding Program for Fresh Graduates hired by Ceylon Organic House
This project aimed to design and deliver a training program for fresh graduates joining Ceylon Organic House (COH), a company committed to sustainable agriculture and the promotion of organic products. The initiative addressed a critical need: bridging the gap between academic learning and practical understanding of COH’s goals and operations.
With COH expanding its presence in Canada and Sri Lanka, aligning new hires with the company’s mission was paramount. The training not only equipped fresh graduates with the tools to excel in their roles but also ensured they internalized the values of sustainability and ethical practices that form the core of COH’s identity.
Responsibilities
-
Instructional design
-
Curriculum development
-
Workshop facilitation
-
eLearning module creation
-
Performance assessment
The Problem
COH recognized a gap between the academic knowledge of new recruits and the specific skills required to contribute effectively to its operations. Challenges included:

-
Limited Practical Knowledge: Many graduates lacked an understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and COH’s operational processes.
-
Lack of Goal Alignment: New hires often struggled to connect their daily tasks to the company’s overarching mission.
-
High Onboarding Costs: Without structured training, onboarding processes consumed significant time and resources.
This situation highlighted the need for a structured program to onboard and upskill fresh graduates quickly while fostering a sense of purpose and connection to COH’s goals.
Tools Used
-
Articulate Storyline 360
-
Adobe Creative Cloud apps
-
Axonify
-
Canva
-
Zoom
The Solution
To address these issues, I designed a structured onboarding and training program combining eLearning modules, interactive workshops, and practical activities. Key components included:
-
Scenario-Based eLearning: Focused on real-world applications of COH’s processes, such as inventory management, customer interactions, and implementing sustainable practices.
-
Mission Alignment Workshops: Interactive sessions where trainees explored COH’s goals, values, and the importance of sustainability in agriculture.
-
Practical Field Activities: Visits to COH’s organic farms and retail outlets allowed graduates to experience operations firsthand.
-
Resource Portal: A resource hub on Axonify with all the learning materials, video tutorials, and quick-reference guides to support continuous learning.

The Process

Project 2: Demystifying Cognitive Science & Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Research for Volunteers
This project was created to make cutting-edge research in Brain-Computer Interfaces accessible and inclusive for a diverse audience of volunteers. This initiative aimed to address the challenges of effectively communicating complex scientific concepts to participants from various educational, cultural, and experiential backgrounds.
The training program provided clear, engaging, and visually appealing resources to prepare volunteers for their roles in BCI research studies. By focusing on inclusivity and accessible design, the project ensured that participants felt empowered and informed, fostering their active and confident participation.
Responsibilities
-
Instructional design
-
Multimedia content development
-
Accessibility integration
-
Volunteer feedback and iteration
The Problem
BCI research relies on volunteer participants who often lack the technical expertise needed to fully grasp the underlying concepts. Challenges included:
-
Complex Terminology: Volunteers frequently encountered technical jargon that could discourage participation.
-
Lack of Inclusive Design: Training materials were not previously optimized for individuals with accessibility needs or varied learning preferences.
-
Volunteer Retention: Without engaging and clear training, some participants felt disconnected or overwhelmed, leading to high dropout rates.
Tools Used
-
Moodle (Learning Management System)
-
Vyond
-
Canva
-
Google Workspace
-
Accessibility Testing Tools
The Solution
To address these issues, I developed an inclusive training program designed to:
-
Simplify Complex Concepts: Breaking down BCI principles into easily digestible content using plain language and visual aids.
-
Leverage Multimedia: Animated explainer videos created in Vyond illustrated key ideas and scenarios, making the material engaging and relatable.
-
Create Accessible Resources: Ensured materials met accessibility standards, including captioned videos, screen reader compatibility, and multiple language options.
-
Use Modular Design: Designed the Moodle-based course with self-paced modules, allowing volunteers to navigate topics at their own pace.
-
Feedback-Driven Improvements: Integrated volunteer feedback into iterative updates to continuously refine the program.
